Wow, it’s already been another week? You did it. I made some minor updates to my site tonight to show my latest media diet and blog posts. I try to keep an up-to-date commentary on random thoughts and things I’ve watched and read on there. Give it a read if that sounds good.
Otherwise, it’s been a chill time in the Shelley household. I had some great wine, and visited Japantown for the first time in 10 years. I also leveled-up to 22 in Wanikani! Learning a new language is a grueling process—I’m at 22 years of Japanese study so far.
Without further ado, here’s some links:
Robin Sloan had great commentary on how to address the horrifying scale of social networks, hilariously posted to his own single-serving mock-up of an alternate reality social network. I too wish for a future where "Social media platforms should run small, and slow, and cool to the touch." I think this is why I increasingly find myself drawn to newsletters and RSS.
Robin also runs the delightful desert.glass newsletter. In it, he often releases strange writing experiments, like one where a D&D-esque adventure was randomly generated based on form responses for each buyer.
Need more reasons why it’s cool to make your own website or newsletter?
“What about some art?” I’ve heard you asking out loud via the complex system of vacuum tubes I send these missives through. Oh, I’ve got your art right here!
Every year, Carryology gives out awards to exemplary bags. This is their suggestion of great sling bags. They’re so hot right now.
Finally, if you are thinking, “this newsletter thing seems easy!”, I might recommend either Substack (this newsletter is created using their arcane magicks), or ButtonDown, a new platform with a simple monetary model, and an open approach to growth and development.
If you like these, feel free to tweet @brookshelley or just keep reading. Have a great week!
